In this lesson, you’ll explore the fascinating world of images variations and editing with DALL-E. You’ll also learn how to combine text generation and image generation in one app.

DALL-E 2’s variation mode is particularly powerful for creating multiple design options from a single image. This is invaluable for logo design, where you might want to see different iterations before choosing the final version.

Steps for Using Variation Mode

  1. Prepare Your Image: Ensure your image is in PNG format.
  2. Generate Variations: Use the API to create multiple versions of your image. Each variation will maintain the core elements of the original while introducing slight changes.

Steps for Using Editing Mode

  1. Prepare Your Image: Your image must be in PNG format and include transparency for the areas you want to modify. You can create this transparency using image editing software.
  2. Create a Mask: If the image doesn’t have transparency, then you must prepare a mask. It is a separate PNG file where the transparent areas indicate the parts of the image you want to edit. The non-transparent areas remain unchanged.
  3. Formulate Your Prompt: Create a detailed description of the image you want to generate. The prompt is for the end result of the image. For example, the original image is a man with a hat. Then, you delete the hat part using transparency. The prompt could be “A man with a cat on top of his head.”

Creating Transparent Areas for Editing

To create transparent areas in your image, you can use image editing softwares like GIMP, Photoshop or Photopea. Here’s a brief overview of how to do it with Gimp:
